TOKYO TOURS

Tokyo Tours – There are an astonishing number of tours that can be undertaken in the city. From walking around districts with a guide explaining the historical backgrounds of the architecture and the people who populate them, to river cruises that bear you away on the silent waters past metallic towers and serene shrines.

Travel Guide

Any Tourist Information Centres carry leaflets about tours and, if you’d rather be independent, self-guided tours compete with street maps, public transport advice, and details about the attractions you pass en route. Japan Grey Line, telephone – 3433 5745, offers city day tours and river cruises or, at the more expensive end, you can have dinner with a classical theatre performance included for ¥4000-10 000. Jun’s Tokyo Discovery Tours, telephone – 3749 0445, offers one-on-one guiding if you don’t want to be part of a group. The itineraries are tailor made and you will need to book a few weeks in advance. Other well-known tour operators include;

JTB Tokyo Sunrise Centre
2-3-11 Higashishinagawa, Shinagawa-ku
Telephone – 5796 5454
Offering both full and half day tours, you can choose from a morning tour that absorbs the main sights around Tokyo, to a sumo guide that explains the history behind Japan’s national sport before you see a match. Half day tours range from ¥5000-9800. If you want something more substantial then book a full day excursion, a City at Night tour or a trip to the races, from ¥8900.
