TOKYO JAPAN TOURIST INFORMATION
Tokyo Tourist Information - The Tourist or Visitor Offices can provide visitors with useful maps, timetables and accommodation options to help you discover the city. The Japanese National Tourist Organisation (JMTO) has two Tourist Information Centres (TIC’s) in Tokyo. One is conveniently located on the first floor of the Terminal 2 building at Narita Airport (open daily 9am-8pm) and the second is on the 10th floor of the Kotsu Kaikan Building in Yuraku-cho, telephone 3216 1901, open 9am-5pm Mon-Fri and 9am-noon Sat. Both are crammed with useful leaflets, maps and well-informed staff who can answer pretty much any questions you might have. These TIC’s can also make accommodation reservations for hotels and ryokans (traditional Japanese inns) but only if they belong to the Welcome Inn group.

Alternatively, you can call the enormously useful Teletourist line, 3201 2911, which is a 24 hour, English-speaking, taped information service about any events going on. You can also arrange tours through the Teletourist group.
The Information Bureau of Tokyo, Ground floor Tokyo Statch near the central Yaesu exit, open 9am-6pm Mon-Sat, also offers a myriad of maps, guides and listings for the Tokyo area.
Weather
By far the best time to visit Tokyo is when the blossom bends the boughs of the trees with their pink puffs in spring. The temperatures creep into the mid 20’s and high blue skies help set the winter blues adrift. Autumn is also very pleasant, but avoid the winter months when bitterly cold winds start the city shivering. The hot and humid summer season means an already crowded city can feel as though it’s stifling you and not even the heavy rains that fall during some Monsoon seasons can ease the ceaseless humidity. Beware of late June as there is an annual holiday and the Golden Week from 29 April-5 May when yet more swathes of humanity press themselves onto the streets.
